Pre-storm surf trip
Stone Harbor Creek - Cape May, NJ
Raced home from school today to fish the surf prior to the big Nor'Easter the weather prognosticators are calling for this weekend. The wind was already starting to pick up out of the NE, and the water was already getting choppy. It was still very fishable though. I got to me spot with Idgie and Bubbalouie in tow. I tossed out my first rod loaded with salted clam and turned to rig up my second rod. I no sooner started rigging up when my first rod was bent over. I fought the wiry little striper onto the beach, took a quick photo, and sent it back on its way. I fished for two more hours with nothing but crabs eating my baits. Not a touch. So, the lesson for today is: the firtst cast catch curse is real. Very real. If you catch a fish on your first cast, just go home... Despite the lack of action after the initial thrill, it was a fun day on the beach with the dogs. Maybe next time the stripers will be more cooperative. Tight Lines!
